Indore communal clashes: 30 cops among 45 injuredBagish K Jha TNNIndore:Curfewwasclampedin the city’s communally volatile localities on Tuesday after violent clashes between two groups during which 45 people, including 30 policemen, were injured. Over 100 vehicles were damaged and at least two set on fire. Police opened fire after teargas shells failed to bring under control the rioters, fifty of whom were arrested later. Curfew was imposed in Chandan Nagar and adjoining localities while the administration orderedclosureof educationalinstitutions in the city. Police said the violence erupted after caracasof an animalwasfound near a temple in Ambar Nagar area. Soon an enraged group went on a rampage, blocking roads and throwing stones at some houses. Later, members of another community clashed with the people marching towards the Chandan Nagar police station. The area had witnessed clashes between two groups over a cricket match three days ago. Mobs ran amok and indulged in brick-batting for more than an hour before additional forces reached the spot. Additional SP Anil Kushwah was among those injured after policemen were targeted with petrolbombs andstones. |
