New Delhi: Fissures appeared in Team Anna on Sunday as one of its core committee members Maulana Shamoon Qasmi was expelled from the team on accusations of ‘breach of trust’ after a marathon meeting in Noida. The core committee meeting was held in the backdrop of alleged differences among members over the decision that a joint rally against corruption would be held by Gandhian Anna Hazare and yoga guru Baba Ramdev in New Delhi on June 3.
Qasmi, the only Muslim member of the core committee, stormed out of the meeting held in Sector 43 of Noida which was attended by Hazare and other core members of the team including Prashant Bhushan, Kiran Bedi and Kumar Vishwas. Speaking to media outside the meeting venue, Vishwas said Qasmi was expelled for “breach of trust”.
“He was asked by senior Team Anna member Shanti Bhushan to keep away from the meetings and not attend it for the time being,” Vishwas said.
Qasmi has been accused of audio-recording the proceedings of the core committee meetings on his mobile phone and leaking it elsewhere. Qasmi, however, said he quit the team because it had turned ‘political’ in nature and there was no place in it for him.
Addressing the media shortly after the meeting, Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan reiterated that Hazare would shortly begin his tour of the entire country starting from Maharashtra.
“We had named 16 ministers of being involved in corruption in the rally of March 25, on whom investigation proceedings have not been initiated so far,” Bhushan said.
