Mumbai: A Virar-based RTI activist, who had sought details of several construction projects in the Vasai-Virar belt as a member of an anti-corruption organization, was shot dead on Friday evening. Two people are being questioned.
Premnath Jha, 42, was riding towards his residence in Virar (East)’s Phoolpada on his bike when several rounds were fired at him from a revolver. One of the bullets struck Jha’s forehead and he fell off. A bleeding Jha was spotted by the watchman of his building, Guru Dutt Nagar Society, who alerted his family. He was rushed to hospital where he died during treatment.
Police had initially registered a case of accidental death. But Jha’s family members suspected foul play as his forehead had an injury mark that seemed like a bullet hole.
