Jaitley attacks govt for Malik’s Babri remarks

New Delhi: BJP came down heavily on the government for failing to categorically reject Pakistani interior minister Rehman Malik’s controversial remarks apparently equating terrorist attacks like 26/11 carried out by Pakistan-based groups and the Babri Masjid demolition.
BJP leader Arun Jaitley said it was unfortunate that at the very commencement of his visit to India, Malik spoke of “cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan and in the same breath speaking of domestic developments in India”. Jaitley said he was breaching the unwritten convention of political parties not commenting on a visiting foreign dignitary as Malik’s highly provocative remarks were not rebutted by home minister Sushil Shinde.
With the campaign for the Gujarat election closing on Saturday, BJP launched a sharp attack on the UPA government as it shed constraints like alliance compulsions and its own vulnerabilities.
