But Quiet On Her MLA Facing Rape Charges

Lucknow:BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday said that her party has agreed that those accused of rape should not be fielded by political parties in elections. However, a study has revealed that Mayawati has given tickets to candidates facing charges of crime against women including rape. As a matter of fact, a BSP MLA in Uttar Pradesh is charged with rape.
    Mayawati expressed
her “reservation” about fielding rape accused in elections at a press conference to “highlight the failures” of the Samajwadi Party government in the state and UPA at the Centre. “BSP agrees with the view 101% (sic) that rape accused should not be fielded as candidates,” she said.
When asked about tickets already given to candidates facing charges of crime against women, Mayawati said she was against fielding rape accused. When pointed out that there are several MLAs and MPs facing rape charges, she said parties should take action against them. But a question regarding three SP MLAs and one BSP MLA facing rape charges was lost in a flurry of questions on other issues
