Hyderabad: A five-year-old residential school student, whose parents could not clear the fee dues, was reportedly detained for a week by the school management. According to Vanasthalipuram police, the student of KB School of Excellence at Turkayamjal village on the outskirts of the city was detained from April 9, when the annual examinations got over.
The police said the boy's parents had paid Rs 33,000 of the total fee of Rs 40,000. When the boy's mother Rani came to take him home for the summer vacation, she was told to first pay up the balance of Rs 7,000. The parents, however, could not pay the money and the school management held the boy back. His father Alwal Reddy, approached the L B Nagar deputy commissioner of police D Nagendra Kumar on Friday who instructed his men to get
the boy released from the school. "We have booked a case against the school and arrested administrative officer Bhupathi Reddy," Vanasthalipuram inspector B Ravinder Reddy told TOI.
Meanwhile, AP Balasangham, a child rights NGO, staged a protest in front of the school, demanding that the school education department take action against the erring management. "This incident has taken place just a day after secondary education minister K Parthasarathi announced there would be strict regulation of school fees through the introduction of a new Act. We expect the department to take action against school managements which pressurise parents for fees," said Achyuta Rao, president, AP Balasangham.
According to officials of school education department, the erring school will be de-recognised if the charges levelled against them are proved. Responding to the matter, district education officer inspected the school and issued a show cause notice to the management.
