Nine Deendar Anjuman activists held in Vizag-ToI-26.12.11


Visakhapatnam: Nine activists of the banned Deendar Anjuman were arrested by the police here on Saturday for propagating the ideology of the organisation and fomenting hatred against other religions. They were remanded in judicial custody. 
    Nineteen others were also booked under other sections. The Deendar activists were picked up when they were organising secret meetings at Kobbarithota area in Endada on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. However, their arrests were made known only on Sunday night. Sources said the arrested were active members of the banned outfit.
 
    Later, they were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody till January 13 under the Unlawful Activities Act. The 19 others were booked under section 108 of CrPC and ‘bind over’ cases filed against them. They were produced before the Visakha rural tehsildar.
 
    On a tip-off, Potinamallayyapalem police swooped on the meeting venue where 30 members of Deendar Anjuman were present. Sources said some of the activists came from Hyderabad, Guntur, Vijayawada and Karnataka.
 
    It is for the first time that Deendar Anjuman activists have been arrested in the port city.
