Lucknow: Patrolling was intensified in the curfew-bound Kosi Kalan locality of Mathura on Saturday, a day after two of the dozen people injured in Friday’s clashes succumbed to injuries at the Mathura district hospital. What started as an altercation between two groups over use of water in a drum placed outside a mosque took a violent turn following rumours of a communal flare up. Two people were killed in the clashes on Friday.
Trouble began around 2.00pm on Friday in Sarai Shahi area where a passerby dipped his hands in the drum, leading to a heated exchange with some locals. The passerby explained he didn’t know it was drinking water because the drum wasn’t covered nor was there any sign.
