Joint police teams of UP and JTamil Nadu Police have arrested an accused of 2002 Ghatkopar blast, in which two people were killed and 25 others were injured.
The accused, identified as Taufeeq Ahmed alias Abdullah, was arrested from Morna in Sector 24 of Noida on Tuesday afternoon. The accused was arrested by a joint team of UP police, AntiTerrorist Squad (ATS), Tamil Nadu Special Investigation Team (SIT) and by Noida police, when he was about to leave for Dubai. Police is now carrying out raids in many areas to nab the other accused wanted in Mumbai blast.
Police officers said raids are to find those who could have sheltered the accused during his stay in Noida and its adjoining areas.

A senior official from ATS said, “We had deployed police teams around the neighbouring areas of Noida after we received an information that a terrorist was hiding and was trying to escape to Saudi. There was specific information about his movements. A swift action followed and he was nabbed from Sector-24 in Noida.
Police are investigating his motive behind his illegal stay in Noida. He belongs to Adirampattinam in Tamil Nadu and has been handed over to Tamil Nadu police for further investigation. He is wanted by the Tamil Nadu Police for his involvement in a case that is registered with Kodungaiyur police station in Tamil Nadu.

During the preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that he was earlier associated with Lashkar-eTaiyyba, Muslim Defence Force (MDF). He had formed an organisation in the name of New Vision and Iravian Oruvane to execute “AntiNational“ activities. He was constantly on run. He was constantly changing his places of stay and had stayed in Lucknow, Behriach, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh for a long time.
It is found that Taufiq was involved in the Ghatkopar blast. The blast occured on December 2, 2002 in which two people died and 25 were injured.
