Gurgaon to ban Hookah bars as more students are getting addicted—The Pioneer—29.11.11


With   more   college students thronging the hookah bars in recent months to taste   tobacco molasses containing nicotine in the millennium city of Gurgaon, the city administration has decided to shut them with immediate   effect.     After observing   that   college students and employed and u n e m p l o y e d   youth   in particular   are  habitual in consuming tobacco at these dedicated bars, an immediate step was taken by District Magistrate   P C Meena on Monday to ban the  hookah bars  and  even other  bars serving tobacco in this form in the city. The administration has invoked section 144 of Cr PC for this purpose. If any bar is seen violating the order, a legal action by the Gurgaon administration will be taken against them. Meena told  The Pioneer that taking the health hazards of tobacco and nicotine into a c count ,   t he  op e r at ion of h o o k a h b  a r s   h a s   b  e  e n p r o h i b i t e d   i n   t  h e   e n t i r e district with immediate effect. “Hookah bars are serving tobacco molasses containing nicotine which is injurious to t h e  he  a  lt h  of   t h e  p e opl e , especially the college students and youth. The people and the young generation were being spoilt by these illegally running  hookah bars. Those found violating these orders will be dealt with seriously and strict legal action will be taken against them,” Meena further said. The orders have been sent to the District Police and Health authorities for strict compliance of the prohibitory orders. Besides, all SDMs, Di s t r  i c  t   R e  v e nu e  Of  f  i c e r, Estate Officers of HUDA, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, B l o  c k   D  e  v e l o p m e n t   a n d P a n c h a y a t   O f  f  i c e r s ,   G M Haryana Roadways and other o f  f  i c e r s   o f   d i s t r  i c  t a dmi n i s t r at i on   h av e   b  e  e n  asked to enforce these orders in their respective areas.
