Mumbai: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s son finally got married to a UK-based Pakistani businessman’s daughter at his palatial bungalow in Karachi’s upscale Clifton area last week.
The wedding was postponed twice due to the don’s security concerns after Osama bin Laden’s killing in northwestern Pakistan in May and mounting pressure on Islamabad to handover the Indian fugitive. “Dawood postponed it first for a few weeks after Osama’s killing and indefinitely when the international pressure mounted further,’’ a source said. “They planned the wedding in Dubai but it did not materialize. The bride’s father wanted to go back to the UK and insisted that the wedding should take place at the earliest.”
Sources said Dawood arranged Moin’s marriage with Saniya Shaikh through his business contacts in Karachi. They said the couple got married on Friday at a nearby mosque followed by a grand reception two days later.
Only close relatives and selected friends attended the Nikah. But the reception was a grand affair and the guests included a few high ranking Pakistan army officers.
Moin is in the last year of his business management course at an institute affiliated with a UK-based business school.
Sources said Dawood and his lieutenants ensured that no stranger and particularly the media were allowed even in the vicinity of his house till the morning after the reception. They said Dawood has videographed the ceremonies and was planning to send the footage strictly by hand to his kin in Mumbai.
Dawood’s daughter, Mahrukh, was married to cricketer Javed Miandad’s son, Junaid, in 2006. His second daughter, Mahreen, tied the knot with a USbased businessman’s son in February this year.
