DJS centre raided-ToI-2.10.11

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Hyderabad: After ignoring the existence of Darsgah-e-Jihad wa Shahadat (DJS) for several months, the city police suddenly woke up to its alleged threat to the society and raided the DJS training centre at Purani Haveli late on Thursday night.
According to sources, the police arrested a member of the DJS, Mohammed Bin Omar, from the centre and seized sticks and karate apparels from his possession.
Mohammed Abdul Majid, who was elected president of the DJS last August after the demise of its founder Shaikh Mahboob Ali, condemned the raid and said it was without any provocation. “We had done nothing wrong or nothing new. But the police raided the DJS centre,” he said.
Mirchowk police station inspector S Ramchandra Reddy said, “We got the information that martial arts training was being given by the DJS in Purani Haveli. We raided the place and have taken one of its activists into custody for investigation.”
The DJS chief had told mediapersons earlier that 50,000 Muslim youth were given training by the organisation in self-defense in the last 28 years. The organisation runs two training centers, one at Ujale Shah Eidgah Grounds in Saidabad and another at Purani Haveli.
