Maoists on Tuesday killed a physically challenged youth Misra Tur uk of Narayanpatna by slitting his throat and also torched his two jeeps.
Sources said two brothers Rabi Turuk and Misra Turuk of Ichapur village under Tentulipadar gram panchayat were staying in Narayanpatna block in Koraput district. After they were displaced, the duo along with their family shifted to Narayanpatna, four-five years back and were doing some business for their liveli hood besides maintaining two jeeps for transporting passengers to different places.
On Tuesday night the two jeeps used in transporting passengers from Narayanpatna to Tala Gumandi, 22 km away from Narayanpatna accompanied by Misra Turuk. Near Mankidi village about 17 km from Narayanpatna, a group of Maoists stopped the vehicles and caught hold of Turuk.
The passengers and the two drivers plying the jeeps fled from the spot an the youth’s throat was slit. The Maoists left a letter near the body, signed by Secretary of Koraput and Srikakulam Division of CPI
(M), Daya which claimed Misra of being a police informer, hence the punishment was decided in a Praja Court. They also claimed that, Misra being an informer was taking `10,000 from the police every month for giving information on Maoist presence and their activities.
On repeated threat of Maoists, Misra was not giving any importance to them, hence he was killed, the Maoists claimed in the letter. The body was yet to be recovered from the spot. There was no information about the incident with the Narayanpatna police, sources said.
