Ban on slaughter and sale of meat in the Mira-Bhayander region will be in force
on September 17.
The state government has
banned meat slaughter and sale on two days. The first day was on September 10
when all meat shops remained shut. Butchers in Mira-Bhayander say that they
will follow the two-day ban as per the government resolution every year during
Paryushan.
The Bombay high court has
lifted the ban on meat sale in Mumbai on September 17. The ban will remain in
rest of Maharashtra.
There was an uproar in the
region when the BJP ruled Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) on
September 4 imposed an eight-day ban on meat sale. The ban was reduced to two
days by the municipal commissioner Achyut Hange.
