New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted a rec r u i t m e n t racket in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) allegedly run by senior ITBP officials, including a deputy inspector-general (DIG). Satpal, the accused DIG, was the chairman of the selection panel that conducted the hiring drive for 84 constables and head constable.
The agency has registered a case against Satpal and other ITBP officials for accepting bribe from candidates, who had applied for the jobs in January.
CBI has registered a case of criminal conspiracy and forgery under the Prevention of Corruption Act against then DIG Dehradun Satpal; deputy commandant of third battalion in Bareilly, N R Shimrey; assistant commandant of third battalion in Bareilly, Somnath, and head constable (PSO to then DIG) Virender Kumar.
CBI also conducted searches at the official and residential premises of the accused in Delhi, Dehradun, Bareilly and Chandigarh. Now, Satpal is posted as DIG Administration at National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, Delhi.
CBI officials said Satpal obtained illegal gratification from the candidates for favouring them during the recruitment process.
