PWD executive engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta, who was 50 years old, was kidnapped from his house and tortured by Tiwari and his henchmen on December 24, 2008, for refusing to pay extortion money to the MLA in the name of party funds. The accused dumped Gupta’s body outside the Dibiyapur police station in Auraiya district and fled.
Gupta’s post-mortem report revealed torture with electric shocks, 32 injury marks on his body and four in the head. It was a huge embarrassment for Mayawati, who later provided Gupta’s family a house in Lucknow with security and gave Rs 5 lakh in compensation.
