(But he keeps mum on the terror organization Jamaat-ud-dawa (JuD) in Pakistan)
Addu Atoll (Maldives): Pakistani interior minister Rehman Malik has said that 26/11 Lashkar gunman Ajmal Kasab should be “sent to the gallows” as he is a “non-state actor and a terrorist”.
Malik said there could be no sympathy for Kasab, but did add that India must take similar measures against those blamed for the Samjhauta blast carried out allegedly by Hindu radicals. He said terror affected India and Pakistan equally, and was a global issue needing greater international cooperation.
The Pakistani interior minister, known for its outspoken ways, also said he was hopeful the judicial commission set up to gather information on 26/11, including case evidence from Indian prosecutors, is able to travel to India soon after clearance from New Delhi. “I cannot predict judicial processes but I would say the case against the accused should conclude soon,” Malik told the media on Thursday on the sidelines of the SAARC summit. Malik said he expected the judicial commission to be in India for three-four days and said the evidence gathered would be needed in Pakistani courts. He said the accused held in Pakistan had not got bail yet and there was no slackening on part of Islamabad.
In reply to a question, the minister denied that slain Al Qaida chief Osama bin Laden was “sheltered” in Pakistan. “There were (US) intelligence agencies tracking Laden. We did not know of that. If we were sheltering him, we would know of this as well,” Malik said. “If Laden had lived in a room in north London, who would have known?” he asked.
‘No evidence to brand JuD as a terror outfit’
Addu Atoll (Maldives):
Pakistani interior minister Rehman Malik said Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), the religious arm of Lashkar-e-Taiba, had not been banned as there was no evidence to term it a terror outfit. Asked about Pakistan’s response to Indian dossiers on JuD, he said: “Some information has been given, but where is the evidence?” .
