NDTF, ABVP to launch campaign against Left—the Pioneer—25.10.11

While the Left wing teachers W have been protesting against the withdrawal of AK Ramanujan's essay on Ramayana, the NDTF and ABVP, the BJP-led groups in Delhi University, have decided to launch a nationwide campaign against the Left, alleging that the Left is attempting to portray a distorted picture of ancient Indian culture and religious epic. While the Left labelled the move fascist, the pro-BJP groups labelled it as an attack on academic freedom.
The teachers and the students belonging to the Left group took to the streets condemning the decision of the university for removing the essay. “The Hindu ideologists only want their version to be taught and they have tried to play the sentimental card.
Nobody has the right to take decisions for us, that what Valmiki has written is only to be taught,“ said DUTA member Abha Dev Habib of DTF.
The NDTF and the ABVP, however, argue that AK Ramanujan was not a historian and his essay deliberately highlights those narratives of the Ramayana which paint Rama, Sita, Hanumana, Laxmana, etc.
in dubious hues. This essay is partly pornographic. “It is a well known tactic of the leftists to attack deep-rooted religious beliefs of Hindus,“ said Inder Mohan Kapaya of NDTF. The NDTF also plans to collect signatures of at least 10,000 students, teachers, artists, authors in support of their views.
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy also described the protest of the Left as ridiculous, charging it has come from Left-wing activists and not from genuine scholars and students.
